We’ve been up to a bunch of cool stuff lately behind the scenes in preparation for The Ozark Backwoods Challenge 2023. Here’s a rundown…
AviNation Article
Last year we developed an amazing relationship with AviNation and The Pilot Club that resulted in having a flight simulator on sight at the The OBC that allowed anyone to fly the ArkanSTOL course!

New Airside Team / New Scoring
For 2023 we’ve re-organized our all volunteer team structure to streamline the competing structure, rules and scoring. They’ve been meeting regularly to further enhance the professional structure and atmosphere for competition that we have strived for since day one.
The big news is that with past competitor input we’ve settled in on a simplified scoring structure for 2023 that has a simple formula: Time + Distance + Penalties = Score - lowest score wins.
We all felt this was the best way to keep true to one of ArkanSTOL’s original goals of providing an event that doesn’t favor any one particular characteristic of a STOL aircraft.
