He’s also won STOL Competitions at Oshkosh, Independance Oregon, New Holstein, and various other competitions. He’s the 2016 World STOL Drag Champion. Steve won the Charles Lindbergh Trophy at OSH with Yee Haw 6 in 2018. He is the Dealer for Just Aircraft’s amazing airplanes: the Highlander and SuperSTOLs.

Raised on a Texas Hill Country ranch, my father was a crop duster and CFI who introduced me to the joys of flying. I learned to fly Cubs and Champs to 182s. I served in the US Marine Corps, and US Army where I retired as a fixed wing and heli instructor with over 12,000hrs in larger aircraft. I love the simplicity of flying a Kitfox, the checklist is short, the take-off is short, the landing is short and the speed is slow. But the fun is fast and lasts a long time…The FUN meter stays pegged at the red line!

I have been a pilot for 25 years. The most fun flying I have done has been in the last four years in my Superstol. Meeting and making new friends and flying with them. Our group in NW Georgia and SE Tennessee called the STOL Bandits get to play on the mountain brow strips and in the valleys on multiple river strips (strips beside rivers and creeks) Just an all around great time flying, camping, lots of good food and camaraderie.

I am a 24yr old grad student at Oklahoma State majoring in aviation and space. I’ve been flying since 2014 acquiring the passion from my dad. At a very young age, I was introduced to off-airport flying in my dad’s Super Cub. Since then I have learned to appreciate the art of short takeoffs and landings through my own backcountry experiences with great airplanes and even better friends.
