TONY ARMOUR Dalton, GA Just SuperSTOL My Just Superstol has a Rotax 914 with Edge fuel injection and a water to air intercooler. I have been flying 25 years, 20 of that has been in Mooney's.....it's been great but the most fun flying I have ever done has been the last five years flying low and slow, hills, off airport, challenging locations, etc. What has kept this type of flying fun and exciting has been flying with local friends, each bringing their own personality and special destinations. Our local group is called the "Stol Bandits", check us out on Facebook !

TREVOR DAWSON Clinton, AR. Aviation is my livelihood, my entire life has been focused and surrounded by every type facet of air travel. I cannot remember the first time my dad gave me the controls, I was young, so young that the autopilot was probably doing all the work.My life's work has become aviation. I started doing real flight training when I was around 14, I flew an airplane by myself before I drove a car by myself on my 16th birthday. Since then, I have taken more FAA tests than I can count. I am an A&P, and a Multi-Engine Instrument Pilot at the age of 23. My instrument trainer was a V35 when I was 19. In my flying career I have logged time in around 26 different airplanes, mostly complex and high performance types. My day job is salvage manager at our company, I talk to aviators all day. My job is to keep them in the air.

JARED JESTICE Viola, AR I have been flying the Arkansas backcountry for almost 2 years now with my Kitfox IV and it's been quite the learning experience, definitely a different type of flying than what I did before purchasing my Kitfox. I fly from a challenging 1000' runway that I built on our place a little over a year ago, it has taught me a lot and has been a good place to sharpen my skills.

LEVI NOGUESS Belton, TX I was born in Alpine, Texas and raised on a ranch in the Texas Hill country between Menard and Junction. My father was a rancher, Crop Duster, CFI and Commercial single engine pilot who introduced me to the joys of recreational flying. We had a grass/dirt strip on the ranch which hosted Cubs, Champs, PA-16, 172’s 182’s etc, so it’s only natural that I started off with a natural affinity for off airport flying. I was a 1981 graduate of the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, TX, then attended the US Naval Academy for two years before joining the US Marine Corp. As a Marine, I served in the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion and 1st Force Reconnaissance Company as a Para Scuba Recon Marine and attended the US Army Special Operations Course. In 1992 I transferred to the US Army to fly UH-1 (Huey) Helicopters, C-12, RC-12, (King Air) and UC-35 (Cessna Citation). Since retiring from the Army in 2006 , my day job has been flying in the coolest of vacation locations such as Iraq and Afghanistan where I fly a modified King Air as a Contract ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance ) instructor pilot and Flight Standardization Manager. I also Own a FASTSIGNS franchise in Killeen, TX where we provide all matter of visual communication solutions to businesses and individuals wanting to put their best message on display. We can also provide graphics for airplanes! I have approximately 13,000 hours total time in much larger and more powerful aircraft, but I love the simplicity of flying the Kitfox. I was introduced to the STOL competition world at the Llano, TX STOL Roundup and fell in love with both the competition and the competitors. Arkanstol is a great event that puts all the skills necessary to fly back country off airport and STOL techniques to the test. In the Kitfox, the the check list is short, the take-off is short, the landing is short, and the speed is slow, but the fun is fast and lasts a long time. The FUN meter stays pegged at the red line.

CAMERON SIMMONS Owasso, OK 24 years old Born and Raised in Owasso, Oklahoma. Learned to fly in a sport cub. Received my pilot's license when I was 18 and since then I have been gaining experience flying all kinds of tailwheel aircraft from Wacos to Skywagons. I have around 1200 hours where a vast majority of it is cub time. I graduated from Oklahoma State in spring 2020 majoring in Aviation Management. Currently attending grad school at OSU for a Masters in Aviation and Space.

WAYNE SMITH Watauga, TN Kitfox Model 5 My first memory, from age 3, was of my first flight, sitting on my grandfather's lap in a Cessna 150. Flying got in my blood and stayed from that moment on. I started lessons in 1993, and never looked back. Airplanes have given me thousands of hours of enjoyment and, occasionally, challenges, and now I'm trying to instill that love in my own kids. I've always wanted to fly little bush planes, but, until a year ago, that had not been an option for me. After acquiring a Kitfox, though, I've fallen in love with flying all over again. My wife is also a pilot, though she's not actively maintaining currency since we started having kids. We now have four wonderful daughters and I'm often asked for a trip to the airport, which warms my heart! We have a small farm in northeast Tennessee, where I occasionally land my Kitfox. Now that I'm comfortable with doing that, I'm looking forward to even more challenges like ArkanSTOL!

FRANK MANN Marietta, GA Just Highlander My father was a pilot in the Army flying the OV1 Mowhawk. I spent most of my life admiring him as he was my hero. I have dedicated my flying to my father who taught me the love of aviation. My Highlander, "Flying Ace", was named after what my father called me, Ace. When he was in Vietnam, he had a flight suit made with an embroidered Snoopy Flying Ace on the back. I run the Flying Ace Snoopy on the plane today.

As for my flying, I’ve been a tailwheel pilot from the beginning. 90% of all my flying has been in the back country and off airport. I began competing in the National STOL events last year and have really enjoyed the competition and fellowship.

I am a member of the STOL Bandits and I love my time with those guys. I learn something every time I fly with them.

As for me personally, I retired from competitive motocross and off road racing after a neck injury in 2020 at Daytona SX. I've competed at The Amateur Nationals at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, won a National Title in the National Sprint Enduro Series, been nominated for Rider of the Year at The Monster Energy Rip to Cabo, emceed the Colorado 500 and completed the Trans American Trail in 22 day. I am married to the love of my life Valerie and we have a wonderful Chocolate Lab, Emma.

I’ve been blessed with more than I deserve and I am honored to compete and learn from the best at Arkanstol.

RYAN COURREGES Louisville, CO Kitfox Model IV I started flying gliders at 13 with CAP in Alaska, but had a long break after high school. Finished my license in 2019, added single engine and bought my Kitfox last year. I do a lot of STOL type flying around Colorado as well as a lot of glider flying in the summers. I also volunteer at a WW1 museum and do a lot of work on our replicas to get them built and flying. Outside of flying I've done all sorts of things from fishing across Alaska, climbing the big peaks in the Sierra Nevada and racing motorcycles and mountain bikes around the southwest.

PAUL O’NEAL Munford, TN Kitfox Series V I can not remember a time that I did not want to be a pilot. I think I was born with the dream. Getting to the point of being a certified pilot was a long road for me though. I have had the opportunity to do a lot of different things in aviation. I started out by washing airplanes and eventually became a certified A&P. I have worked on 747's, DC-10's, 727's, A319's and 20's, and a variety of smaller aircraft. I started taking flying lessons at the age of 17 back in 1998 but didn't finally become a pilot until 2010. The original plan was actually to go to Alaska and be a bush pilot but, life happened and my wife and I grew into a large family. We ended up staying in the lower 48 where I have gained experience as an executive charter pilot in the mighty lear jet, have flown for the airlines and currently have been working as the chief flight instructor at a part 141 school in Memphis TN. I absolutely love being an instructor pilot. It is very satisfying to not only help others realize their dreams but to make good quality pilots. The experiences that I have gained in the different sectors of the industry have really helped me in teaching not only the schools student pilots but also in mentoring all of our flight instructors. To unwind from all that teaching and mentoring, my favorite thing to do is fly my kitfox and land in places that most others can't get to. Fortunately for me here in Memphis I live right next to the Mississippi river where there are just a ton of sandbars and cool places to check out. It is my favorite type of flying because it is so dynamic and really requires a sharp understanding of both your airplane and the terrain around you. Landing short and in areas that none of the other fisherman or duck hunters can get to without a good hike or freezing boat ride is amazing and I love it.

EDDIE SANCHES Willis, TX I started flying at a young age in a family of pilots. Hired with the airlines at the age of 22 and currently fly internationally on the B787. Although I've owned several light aircraft, the joy of flying really exploded when I purchased the Highlander in 2018. Since then I've been able to explore what aviation is really about through backwoods flying, competition and camping with friends.

DAVID KERLEY Bee Cave, TX I came to flying later in life and the capabilities afforded by bush planes for exploring the untracked and uncrowded portions of our world has taken a strong hold of me. Flying in the backcountry and even just accessing properties without a formal airport is tremendously fun and convenient. STOL competitions are a wonderful place to meet great people and learn from others in a controlled and very focused manner. Every event I’m blessed to be able to attend brings new friends and great memories.

There's something about going somewhere a plane has never landed, scouting the area, and successfully landing...and then getting back out! I love dropping into a pasture near a friend or family members house and seeing the grins on their faces...and then I get to take them for a ride!

My family and I have flown my Maule M5-210C in locations across Montana and Texas over the years and I couldn't ask for a more capable aircraft for my mission. Fly the plane and never stop learning.

JOEL DOPSON Ooltewah, TN Cessna 172 Taildragger I was born to fly! When I was a little boy I lived in a trailer park under the approach end of runway 04 at Monroe Regional Airport. After I learned the words “mommy” and “daddy”, my next word was “AIRPLANE” as I wold reach up toward the low-flying jets on short final to land. After that I knew I wanted to be a pilot, and eventually was able to attend the “Holiday-in-Dixie” Airshow at Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, LA where I first saw the USAF Thunderbirds perform. I KNEW I had to be a fighter pilot! Eventually, I majored in Professional Aviation and received an Air Force ROTC scholarship at Louisiana Tech University where I was blessed to earn a coveted “pilot slot”. After years of training I became a USAF F-16 “Viper” fighter pilot where I served for 20 years all around the world in both aerial and ground combat. The Air Force awarded me an Air Medal for combat in Iraq, and a Bronze Star Medal for ground combat also in Iraq. I lived and travelled all over the world including Alaska, The United Arab Emirates, Australia, Japan, Korean and elsewhere. Finally I served as a headquarters Flight Safety Officer where I retired from the Air Force as a Lt Col. In 2016 I was hired as a Delta jet pilot, but I had to buy a bush plane to continue learning and sharing dynamic flight opportunities. I have had my 1957 Cessna 172 Taildragger since 2018, and flown all over the eastern United States for fun, friends and competition. I attribute my career to God, family, determination, and perseverance.

DARIN HART Sulphur Springs, TX Darin is the owner of American Legend Aircraft located in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He has over 36 years of flying experience, most enjoying his time in a Cub. Appreciating the ability to fly low and slow, the cub allows him to land or take off in places where most airplanes can’t.
American Legend Aircraft was founded expressly to develop a light sport version of the venerable Piper Cub airplane. From the outset, it was determined that these beloved aircraft were so pure in their design and so honest in their handling, that something had to be done to keep them flying.
Today, Darin is flying in Legend Aircraft’s latest model, MOAC – short for “Mother of All Cubs”. MOAC is a Super Legend XP (extra performance) with a Titan IOX 370 fuel injected 195HP. The XP comes equipped with extended flap area, a larger rudder, and 40 gallons of fuel. MOAC is flying with a 86x40 Catto propeller. The turtle-deck allows for easy access to baggage with 85” of length, room enough for a sleeping bag and 1 camper. There is a fold-down, rear side window for access to a 3rd seat! MOAC has 31” tundra tires with 10” wheels, a TK1 main-gear suspension system and an Alaskan baby tundra tail wheel with T3 dual spring suspension. Moac’s empty weight is 1,062lbs with a gross weight of 2,000lbs

STEVE PIERCE Piper PA-18-150 Graham, TX I rebuild and maintain Super Cubs for a living and fly them for fun. I learned to fly in a Piper PA16 Clipper. That was the first airplane I started landing on gravel bars in. Then was introduced to the 90 hp Super Cub. After owning and flying two Pacers off airport I finally bought a pretty stock Super Cub and have slowly modified it to where it is now. Constantly improving and testing different things and trying to improve my skills while having alot of fun in the process.

GREGG GUIDER Edina, MN Cubcrafters EX-3 I completed my first solo at 16, private pilot at 17, commercial and CFI at 18. I've loved aviation as long as I can remember. For my day job I'm a contract pilot on the Embraer Phenom 100, 300, and Praetor 600. I’ve recently competed in the STOL Drag in Wayne, NE, and received full permission to race at any STOL Drag event.

For the competition I would fly my Carbon Cub EX-3. I built this airplane in my hangar over a period of about a year, finished May of 2020. There is something immensely satisfying about racing and competing in an airplane that you built.

KEITH GYGER Decatur, TX Badlands Traveler
Ive been flying for 33years. Ive had numerous jobs in my aviation career ranging from flight instructor , freight pilot, commuter and major airline. About a year and a half ago I bought my first plane - a Badlands Traveler bush plane. This aircraft has taken me into the wonderful world of backcountry flying. From gravel and sand bar flying on the Brazos and Red River with the Brazos river rats, to competing in the national STOL series . This plane has brought the love and excitement of my early days of aviation back to life.

JOHN WISDOM Quitman, TX I was the kid who dreamed of building an airplane I could fly while reading the pages of Popular Mechanics. It just took until I was 29 to afford my first airplane. It's been an amazing adventure ever since! From that first plane a 1959 Cessna 175 then 1952 Bonanza C35, Scratch built a Sonex, Kit built a Zenith 701, Turbo Cessna 210, Baron C55 and Bonanza V35B, I finally found the American Legend Cub and I'm hooked on Low and Slow. If you don't find me at the airport teaching pilots Tailwheel, you'll find me up on the river running sandbars with the East Texas River Rats. After coming in second at LoneStar STOL and National STOL then Third at ArkanSTOL, a new machine is needed and it's being built right now. The BEAST will be at ArkanSTOL 2021 and I'm going to run hard for first place in my class. See you there!

BRAD CRAWFORD Hot Springs, AR Carbon Cub My first flight was around 8 years old in an extra 300l. That set the hook and ive been flying since. After graduating college with a bachelors in aviation. I flew charter, air ambulance, and then on to corporate jets. Nothing is more satisfying than backcountry flying however. I have bought 5 huskys that where groundlooped in which I fully restored myself. I have 7,000 hours, in over 100 makes. To include a couple thousand hours in high performance tailwheel aircraft in backcountry flying.

PHILLIP JONES Villa Grove, IL Piper PA18
I have been flying since 1994. I have around 1500 hours of flying time. Most of my flight time was in tail wheel aircraft. I have owned and flown many hours in my 170A, Supercub, T-6, Waco UPF7, and Airtractor 301. Twenty years ago I got my helicopter rating and have flown several hundred hours in the two helicopters I have owned. The reason I want to enter the event is that I am looking for new challenges in aviation.

I’m a private pilot that’s passionate about all things aviation. I fly an airplane named "Butch" on a show called OldGreenPlane. I’m very fortunate to be able fly my Carbon Cub named "Doc" and search out new areas for me and my friends to test our skills. I've competed in traditional STOL events, and am just starting to compete in STOLDrag events, as well as find other types of events such as ArkanSTOL.
